KCB Rugby Club has successfully defended its National 7s Circuit title after finishing the 2026 season with 115 points, sealing the championship at the Christie 7s held at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi on Sunday.

The Bankers secured the title for the second consecutive year following a consistent campaign that saw them win three of the circuit’s six legs — the Prinsloo 7s, Kabeberi 7s and Embu 7s.

KCB completed its campaign with a third-place finish at the Christie 7s after beating arch-rivals Kabras Sugar 5-0 in the playoff.

The result capped another strong season for the Bankers, who had already established a commanding position in the overall standings through their performances in the earlier legs.

Head Coach Andrew Amonde said retaining the title was a significant achievement for the team given the competitiveness of the circuit.

“Winning the National 7s Circuit is never easy, and defending the title makes this achievement even more special. The players have shown tremendous commitment, discipline and consistency throughout the season. We had our challenges along the way, but the team remained focused on the bigger objective, which was to retain the overall title,” said Amonde.

At the Christie 7s, KCB began their knockout campaign strongly, thrashing NYS Spades 31-5 in the quarterfinals to book a place in the last four.

However, the Bankers were stopped in the semifinals after losing 19-12 to Strathmore Leos before regrouping to edge Kabras Sugar in the third-place playoff.

KCB player Nygel Amaitsa said the overall title was a reward for the team’s collective effort and consistency throughout the season.

“This has been a demanding circuit, and every team came prepared to compete. For us, the focus was always to remain consistent and collect as many points as possible in every tournament. To finish as champions and successfully defend our title is a proud moment for the entire team and the KCB family,” said Amaitsa.

The latest triumph further underlines KCB Rugby’s strength in the shorter version of the game, with the Bankers combining results across the six legs to retain the crown they won last year.

With the National 7s Circuit now concluded, KCB will turn its attention to the 15-a-side game as the team begins preparations for the next phase of the rugby calendar.

The Bankers will be hoping to carry the momentum and winning mentality from their successful 7s campaign into the upcoming 15s season.
